BASILISK was founded in November 1996.
When looking for a sound that would make the band unique with an unclassifiable kind of music, a new style developed due to the bands different
The one-of-a-kind BASILISK sound is given distinction by elements of Gothic and Melodic Metal as well as influences of 80s and 90s Heavy
Metal, not to forget the vocals ranging from soft and whispery to hard and aggressive with lyrics partly in English, partly in German.
If one were to classify the band, DARK METAL would be the best match. Back then, the line-up consisted of Sixten (vocals/keyboard), Rudy (guitars),
Siggi (bass) and Ry (drums).
By the end of 1997, the first demo-CD In the room of lights was recorded.
In the following year, the band gave twelve concerts in various clubs. Amongst others, BASILISK performed as supporting act of "Crematory" in the
packed Atlantis (Herbolzheim) as well as in the crowded WOM (Balingen). Winning first place at a contest for newcomers in Nußplingen
certified that the band was on the right track.
Besides several concerts, the spring of 1999 was highlighted by gigs with Ever Eve in Leonberg and headlining in the rock night - Blumberg.
BASILISK would again come out on top and win the newcomer contest in the Animal House - Donaueschingen.
The extremely positive feedback enabled BASILISK to perform as supporting act of My Dying Bride and The Gathering. Another performance
followed at the festival in the Universal D.O.G. in Lahr along with Farmer Boys, Weissglut, Ever Eve and Shock. Especially
memorable was the concert with Phantoms of Future in the Forum Fabric in Villingen-Schwenningen.
By the end of 2000, the previous bassist Siggi was replaced by Frank who enriched the tonal spectrum with his pure voice. At the same time, Tommy
joined as keyboarder. Sixten could now fully focus on his roles as frontman and leading vocalist.
In December of 2001, the second album between light and shadow was published with eight tracks and a new line-up.
In 2002, the band performed in eleven concerts with Tankard, Ashes you leave and Chinchilla, to name a few. From October 2002 , BASILISK
worked together with two subcompanies of Dark Music Productions, namely the Portuguese label Nebula Records and the booking agency Icon Music
So, the album between light and shadow was marketed worldwide in 2003 by Nebula Records. At the end of 2003, a very successful 10-day promotion
tour began with concerts throughout Portugal including Lissabon, Portimao and Leiria. Due to unsatisfying results BASILISK took the booking into its
own hands again.
In 2005 and 2006, BASILISK took a creative break with relatively few concerts to focus on the publication of the album Dark Seasons with thirteen
titles. November of the same year, the mini-EP Empor was punctually placed on the market to celebrate the bands 10th anniversary. A
self-organized festival followed in the same month to mark this big birthday.
After BASILISK and vocalist Sixten separated, the bands line-up changed as follows: Frank (bass/vocals), Tommy (keyboards/vocals), Rudy
(guitars/vocals) and Ry (drums). Without a single frontman, the songs reached a wider tonal variety which was positively received by the fan base.
In 2010, after a hiatus, BASILISK published their new album Red Tears.
Highlights to be mentioned in 2010, 2011 and 2012 are the open air concerts on the market square in Tuttlingen during the South Side Festivals.
BASILISK brought this way a whiff of the festivals spirit into town.
In 2014, the current album Dreamland was recorded single-handedly - just like the previous two albums.
In January 2015, BASILISK signed a promotion and booking deal with BOB Media /Echozone.
