It was back in '03 when four friends in their early twenties formed a rock band they would later call Venatic.
Julien (vocals guitar), Mark (guitar), Tobias (bass vocals) and Philipp (drums) started practicing regularly and threw together their first few
songs. Soon they started taking things more seriously and worked on recording their first demo, titled "The Selfdestructon Sequence". It didn't
take long before Julien realized he couldn't perform vocals to his maximum while also playing guitar, and he decided to concentrate exclusively
on his vocals. Another guitar was needed to complete the sound and the man chosen to do just that was Peter - a decision no one would regret. Now
sporting five musicians, the band went on to release "Evidence", their second EP. But only shortly after the release, Venatic suffered its first
serious blow when both Tobias and Philipp quit the band. Luckily, a replacement for Philipp was found quickly when the band recruited the mere
17-year-old drumming talent Torben; but a new bassist was significantly harder to find.
Rather than resigning, the guys locked themselves into the studio and started recording new material, on which Peter stepped in on the low end.
Auditions for a new bassist turned out to be rather difficult as no candidate proved to be a permanent solution. Finally, only after the release of
the band's first LP, "Bleeding Alpha", Markus got the vacant job and Venatic was complete at last.
With newly gained strength and energy, the band pushed on to tour extensively for several months before they teamed up with Producer Eike Freese to
record "Don't Settle For Less". The new record was once again endorsed with a period of constant touring until the band faced a turn of events
that could easily have been the deathblow for Venatic: Julien decided to quit the band as he wanted to go in a different musical direction. At the
same time, Markus felt the need to concentrate on his academic studies and resigned as well. Almost stripped in half, Mark, Peter and Torben were
forced to put Venatic on hold for the time being and went on to form "Deathtrap For Phoenix". Nevertheless, they always planned on resurrecting the
band as soon as they would find a potential new singer.
It wasn't until early 2010 when new hope presented itself in the form of Lasse, who auditioned as the new singer. It was getting even better when
only weeks later, Venatic found their missing piece in Jonas, who was eager to take over as bassist. The line-up was complete again. Gigs were
planned, recording sessions scheduled, and new momentum was gained, when, without notice, Lasse quit the band. With Jonas in China for a semester
abroad, the band was once again facing extinction. Auditions for a new singer only added to the misery as promising new candidates ended up
disappointing after all. Months passed, and even after Jonas returned no fitting vocalist was found until fall 2011, when Maik came to audition,
grabbed the mic and requested "Fatal Devotion" as the opening song. When his opening scream hailed from the depths of his vocal corpus, everyone knew
that this was the singer they'd been waiting for all along.
From that point on, Venatic was back at full speed: even though Maik had been with the band for only three months, the group released their first live
EP "Live 2011" just before Christmas, that featured recordings from their comeback show, as well as an acoustic radio performance at the popular radio
station "Energy 97.1". After a handful of shows, the band focused on writing new material. The first studio recordings emerged on July 1st 2012 when
"Dead End", the band's fifth EP was released. The title track was also accompanied by Venatic's very first music video, shot by Christoph
Hars. The rest of the year was spent writing more new songs, until the band eventually escaped the studio for two more shows just before the end of
the year, debuting some of the new material live.
If everything goes according to plan, 2013 will have a second LP in store for all of you who never stopped believing in us. We are immensely grateful
for all the support we've received during these extraordinary ten years, and we cannot thank those enough that encourage us to keep doing what we
love, by caring for our music and attending our concerts.
