Todd, Aaron, and Dan met while playing as a part of Twelfth Gate’s live lineup for their Threshold of Revelation cycle. Aaron
eventually left for personal reasons, and eventually Todd also left.
Todd’s musical journey dates back to the early 1990’s during the death metal explosion in the Chicago band, Suspiria. The band parted ways and
Todd spent the next 15 years honing his skills as a much more versatile and talented guitarist. No longer limited by a genre or a label, he was able
to explore many different styles of playing.
Aaron has dynamic vocal abilities, running the gamut from soaring melodic vocals to guttural death growls, complimenting both the melody and the
brutality of Archillusion’s progressive sound. Until then, Todd had most of the music composed, but no singer or lyrics. Aaron agreed, began working
on the lyrics and vocals and with Dan, Archillusion was born.
Dan is an accomplished drummer, influenced by jazz players and metal players alike like Scott Rockenfield and Mike Portnoy. He incorporates many
styles of playing to compliment the heavy riffs and deliver a pummeling rhythm section to Archillusion’s musical palette.
Chris Meller was recruited for bass duties, and has vast experience in both original bands in Chicago and cover bands. His style is also a mixture of
rock, jazz, and metal. He plays both a fretted and fretless bass for Archillusion and is a key component of the dynamic sound Archillusion has.
Desolate Dreamscape was completed over the course of the next few years between the studio for drums, and then at Todd’s for vocals, bass, and
guitars. Todd wrote and composed all of the music and Aaron wrote all lyrics and vocals with the exception of Ashes of Apathy, written by Todd. The
record covers a diverse range of topics from personal, to fiction inspired, to a dark worldview that is all too real in this day and age. Art is a
reflection of many things; society, emotions, dreams, and moods. This record is a reflection of all of these things, holding the mirror up for people
to gaze into and see what they identify with. The record is just as dynamic as it is heavy, and melodic, encompassing all of the elements of the band
member’s individual influences. It is truly a journey one must listen to and digest as a whole to understand. Journey into Archillusion’s Desolate
Dreamscape, and face a reality you won’t soon forget.
