Артист: VA - Death Row Records
Название: DiSCOGRAPHY {2Pac, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, DPG...} {+6 Lossless Albums}
Жанр: Rap
Год выхода: 1991-2009
О музыке: Death Row Records was a record label that was founded in 1991 by Dr. Dre and Suge Knight, and was once home to some of West Coast hip hop's biggest Rappers, including 2Pac, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Tha Dogg Pound (Kurupt and Daz Dillinger).Death Row has sold nearly 50 million albums worldwide, and generated close to $750 million in revenue.[1] The label was also once home to RBX, The Lady of Rage, Warren G, K-Solo, Michel'le, Danny Boy, Bow Wow, DJ Quik, Tha Realest, and Crooked I. In addition, the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes of TLC was signed on and working on an album when she died in an automobile accident.
Our practically unequaled success is the stuff that indie label dreams are made of. Since our first release in late 1992, Death Row Records has sold nearly 50 million units worldwide, generated close to $750 million in revenue, launched the solo careers of some of rap and hip-hop’s greatest artists, and achieved the goal of helping others to realize their vision of life beyond the poverty and violence ravished ghettos of Southeast Los Angeles. The man that turned those dreams into reality was himself a living example of keeping hope alive under abject circumstances. Ten years before his monumental foray into the music industry, Suge Knight was seen as one of those hopeful kids who rises up by virtue of his athletic ability. A janitor’s son, Knight rose above the drug and gang-ridden streets of Compton all the way to his dream of playing professional football for the Los Angeles Rams.
But when Knight hung up his cleats and signed on as a bodyguard for Bobby Brown, his life changed. In 1990, Knight began promoting shows in Los Angeles during the onset of that city’s prolific ‘gangsta rap’ movement. Knight began to pick up contacts and business savvy, and two years later, he formed Death Row Records, entering into an alliance with the Interscope label. Rap music would never be the same. In December of 1992, Death Row Records released their first album – The Chronic – from ex-NWA member, Dr. Dre. The Chronic, which went on to become one of the greatest rap albums of all time, sold over five million copies worldwide and put Death Row on the map. The label continued with a stream of chart-smashing albums from a host of fresh talent. Young Long Beach rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg cut his teeth in hip-hop with his Death Row debut, Doggystyle, which went platinum six times over. The label’s success was unabated, and the next three releases all went multi-platinum. By the mid-Nineties, Death Row had etched its name indelibly in record company history by having their first six releases all go at least double platinum, a previously unheard of feat. The upstart label was dominating the charts and media, yet their biggest and many think their best was yet to come.
In 1996, Death Row released their most profitable album to date, All Eyez on Me, the double-disc entrйe by the recently-inked Tupac Shakur. All Eyez on Me went on to become the label’s best-selling release to date, moving nearly eight million copies worldwide. Death Row became the undisputed king of the hill for its genre. In their first four years, they sold over 25 million records and pulled in over $170 million. Alongside Knight, Dre, Snoop and Tupac formed the Mount Rushmore of gangsta rap. They became the most successful label in rap and hip-hop, with Suge Knight taking his the most successful Black record company CEO since the legendary Berry Gordy. In September 1996, Death Row Records and the world of rap lost one of its greatest figures when Tupac Shakur was gunned down next to the man who gave him his greatest success. Knight, who received a head wound from the shooting, would receive far greater damage the following month when he was jailed for a probation violation that occurred during an altercation hours before Shakur’s murder. Death Row continued to flourish, releasing Tha Doggfather by Snoop Doggy Dogg and The Don Killuminati - The 7 Day Theory by Tupac Shakur, who recorded the album under the name “Makaveli.” Both went on to multi-platinum status. The following year the label scored their greatest numbers with their sixteenth release, 2Pac’s Greatest Hits.
